New Tune from Ghosts of Venice on Solid Bump Records

Got a great new discoy-summer lovin song playing non stop from Ghosts of Venice on his first original release with SFFTW favorite Solid Bump Records. This is exactly the type of song that puts a smile on your face and a bounce in your step. There are four great remixes included with the Her EP, my favorite being the White Girl Lust remix with vocals added. You can stream the entire EP and download the Chopin remix on Solid Bump’s Soundcloud page. Links to buy the tunes are also included. This is a great start for your TGIFriday morning!

For an added laugh check out the hilarious interview of Ghosts of Venice by White Girl Lust below.

Spin Class – DJ Lil’ Elle’s All a Dream Mix

Now that the summer weather is finally arriving in San Francisco it’s time to kick off our shoes and enjoy the sun. This mix is perfect for naps in the grass, walking around the city, or whatever you might be doing with a big smile on your face. It contains an eclectic combination of hip hop, pop, indie rock, electro, and maybe a few more genres that are impossible to pinpoint.

This has been the soundtrack to my extremely hot and humid summer on the east coast and I’m excited to say that I’m relocating to the west and best coast in less than 2 months. I can’t wait to bring this vibe to the bay area.

Let me know what you think and as always, enjoy the jams.

Great New Disco Hit from Solid Bump

San Francisco’s own Solid Bump Records recently threw us some new heat from producers Adulture & OCD Automatic. Their song Paper Cat has an amazing buildup and has been getting a lot of play from dance DJs all over. Check out the remix below from New York’s Free Magic and pick up the favorite Sammy Bananas remix at Turntable Lab. Enjoy this one when you hear it out in the clubs and keep an eye out for all of Solid Bump’s local parties!

Spin Class – Deep Sang’s Warner Bros Disco Tribute Mix

Last year Deep Sang’s summer-themed mix Beachball Bugaloo was pretty much the soundtrack to my summer. He is the perfect DJ for that chilled out vibe to get you in the feel good mood. Obviously I was super excited to see that he just put out a new mix based on one of the top labels in mainstream retro disco music, Warner Brothers.

He says

This is a tribute mix to one of my favorite disco labels of all time, Warner Bros., that I made for Marcus Dowling’s music/culture blog, TGRIonline.com. Most of these are big time classics, but I’ve tried to throw in a few surprises from WB subsidiaries like RFC, Whitfield, and Curtom as well. It’s always a tough thing to make a tribute mix for a label like WB that had so many hits, so I can’t call this a “best of,” but it’s definitely got a lot of my favorites on it. Hope yall like the tunes, and if you’re on soundcloud don’t forget to leave a comment telling me how awesome/wack you think it is!

So check out the mix below and start getting that warm and fuzzy feeling inside! To download click on the link to go to the Soundcloud page.

500 Days of Weezy Mixtape

+

A hipster favorite last year, the 500 Days of Summer Soundtrack is filled with somber vocals and beautiful instrumentation making it perfect for a cool summer day. I somewhat enjoyed the soundtrack on first listen but found it hard to repeat, sounding more and more like something I would want to hear on a rainy, depressed day. That’s where this new mashup mixtape, 500 Days of Weezy saves the day(s). Producer My Sick Uncle (not quite sure what kind of name that is) took various Lil’ Wayne vocals and mellowed those often intense songs down with the instrumentals of the 500 Days of Summer Soundtrack. It results in a great mix that keeps you feeling good without getting down or intensely raged out as the original songs alone might have done.

Click here to download or stream the compilation.

My favorites were  Mushababy, Here Comes Your Milli, & Quequ’un M’a Dit: We Outta Here Baby. Enjoy these tunes to put a smile on your face.

‘Despicable Me’ Soundtrack

There have been some amazing animated movies out lately and one of the factors that grabs adults to hit the theaters is the music entertaining throughout. Soundtracks, if done right, can be especially great because they are a compilation of several artists. When that is someone such as Pharrell of N*E*R*D fame you get an especially enjoyable album. Check out my favorite track, “Prettiest Girls” by Pharrell and pick up the whole thing for pretty cheap at Amazon. His production is such a unique sound and he nails it in this movie.

Spin Class: Lil’ El’s ‘Swagger Like Us’ Mixtape

Hey-o! Just finished a mix I’ve been working on for a minute and figured I’d share it with y’all. It’s a great collection of hip hop that’s come out recently and includes most of the favorite artists out now. I’ve made some edits to the songs too to help improve the flow of the mix.

These tunes are seriously perfect for walking around the city, getting ready to go out, or partyin’ it up with a group of friends. Just make sure you remember to swagger like us..

Spin Class: Nadastrom & DJ Haul & DJ Ayres & Tittsworth – This is the Big One

Although the tour won’t be coming to the Bay area, this almost makes up for it. Six heavy hitting DJs contribute to this solid mix with some of not only the greatest songs out now but also a slew of their own productions. DC’s Nadastrom (Dave Nada and Matt Nordstrom) and Tittsworth team up with New York’s DJ Ayres, and Los Angeles’ DJ Haul are an amazing combo and we’re jealous of the cities that get to experience this live. Luckily, they all go on tour frequently and you should see them here sometime soon.

Spin Class: A Year at the Player’s Club: The Gold Watch

Yo, time for the weekly Spin Class to start off the weekend. Two great DJs have contributed to this mix, marking the one year anniversary of their monthly party The Player’s Club in NYC. Skinny Friedman, one half of DJ duo the Philadelphyinz, has been traveling the continent with Fools Gold Records rapper Izza Kizza and will be visiting the SF area in November, date and location TBA. He starts off the mix, and Fools Gold artist Sammy Bananas rounds out the second half.

You will be immediately drawn to this mix by the first infectious song, Mayer Hawthorne‘s ‘Maybe So Maybe No’ which I haven’t been able to stop listening to. Check out the video here that features the legendary LA Sunday afternoon party, the Do-Over. Combined with a grip of other killer tunes to keep you dancing, this mix is perfect good-mood music.
